Hardesty-Higgins House Visitor Center
212 S Main St · Harrisonburg, VA
Why you should go…
The Hardesty-Higgins House is Harrisonburg Tourism's state-certified visitor center, set in a home begun in 1848 by Dr. Henry Higgins and finished by Isaac Hardesty, the city's first mayor. Inside are travel specialists, the Valley Turnpike Museum, one of the Shenandoah Valley's five Civil War Orientation Centers, the Virginia Craftsmen Showroom, the Rocktown Gift Shoppe and the Heritage Bakery and Cafe. The house hosted Union generals during the Civil War and later served as an inn and a furniture workshop. Open daily 9 am to 5 pm, closed on major holidays.

General attractions guidance
Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.
Book the time slot, not just the ticket
Timed entry is now the norm at big-draw attractions, and online tickets are often cheaper than the gate.
Grab the daily schedule on arrival
Feeding times, keeper talks, and shows run on a posted timetable that changes day to day.
The first hour is the quietest
Queues build through late morning and peak after lunch, so an early start buys you the shortest waits.
Budget past the ticket price
Parking, lockers, strollers, and food inside the gates are common extras worth planning for.
