Hartwood Acres Park spreads over 629 acres in Hampton and Indiana townships, about 10 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh. It began as the country estate of John and Mary Flinn Lawrence, whose Tudor mansion was designed by Alfred Hopkins and built in 1929. Guided mansion tours cost $10 to $12 for adults, and the mansion also hosts high teas. Outside are a formal garden, a sculpture garden with 14 works on an accessible path, an off-leash dog park and wooded trails for hiking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. Free concerts play at the amphitheater in summer.
