Cumberland Island, GA
Built around 1900 in the Carnegie era, this structure was used to store ice brought by barge from New England. The ice was packed in insulating materials, and a roof vent helped release warm air. After the island began producing its own ice, the building served mainly as storage. The National Park Service restored it and turned it into a small museum with stories and images from the island's history. Foundations believed to belong to an older general store were also found during the renovation, dating to the early 1800s.
