See the 1853 Captors' Monument where three militiamen caught British spy Major John André, then stroll the oval walk of this shady park on Route 9.
Broadway & College Avenue, Tarrytown, NY 10591 · Tarrytown, NY
During the Revolutionary War, three Patriot militiamen stopped Major John André here and found papers tying him to Benedict Arnold's plot. The Captors' Monument went up on the site in 1853, one of the earliest memorials to any Revolutionary War event, and a bronze statue of militiaman John Paulding now tops it. The four-acre park straddles the Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow line on Broadway, with an oval walkway, a stone gatehouse, a playground and a basketball court. A farmers market runs on Saturdays from late May to October.
