Piscataway Park protects the Maryland shore of the Potomac River opposite George Washington's Mount Vernon, about 20 miles southwest of downtown Washington. Land given through Henry and Alice Ferguson's foundation in the 1960s kept the view from Mount Vernon free of development. The Accokeek Foundation runs the National Colonial Farm side, with heritage-breed livestock, a replica tobacco barn and trails such as Pumpkin Ash and Blackberry. The park is free to visit every day.
