About Jones Point Park

Jones Point is the spot on the Potomac in Alexandria where the 1791 survey of the District of Columbia's boundary began. The small Jones Point Lighthouse operated from 1856 to 1926, and the south cornerstone from the boundary survey sits in a seawall just south of it. A 2012 renovation added trails, a playground, a basketball court, restrooms and small fishing piers under the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. The Mount Vernon Trail runs through the park, and NPS markers tell the history, including a World War I shipyard.
