About Prince William Forest Park

This National Park Service preserve in Northern Virginia offers a quiet, wooded retreat close to Washington, D.C. Visitors can hike many trails, ride bicycles on park roads and trails, camp in tent, cabin, or RV sites, and stay in some of more than 100 cabins. The park began in 1936 as a recreation area that housed children's relief camps during the Great Depression, and it was renamed in 1948. Its piedmont forest and streams show the region's natural ecology, and remnants of earlier communities are also found within its boundaries.
