About Smallwood State Park

Set beside Mattawoman Creek near Marbury, this Maryland park centers on Smallwood's Retreat, the restored plantation house of General William Smallwood, who led Maryland forces in the Revolution and later served as the state's fourth governor. Visitors can join seasonal guided tours, see outbuildings and a tobacco barn, and visit the general's memorial. Outdoors, the park offers a marina with boat ramps, a campground with tent and RV sites and rustic and modern cabins, picnic areas, pavilions, playgrounds, and trails including the two-mile General's Walk. Fishing for bass and other species is popular, and a seasonal Discovery Center displays local wildlife.
