Leesylvania State Park lies on the tidal Potomac River in Prince William County, about 25 miles from Washington, D.C. Henry Lee II, grandfather of Robert E. Lee, lived on the land from 1747 to 1787, and a Confederate battery at Freestone Point fired on Union ships in 1861. Five hiking trails pass river overlooks, the battery remains and the Lee family cemetery. Anglers fish for largemouth bass from a 300-foot accessible pier, and the launch has two ramps. Swimming is not allowed because of swift currents.
