About Providence Canyon State Park

Providence Canyon State Park sits in southwest Georgia and protects a set of eroded canyons whose walls show pink, orange, red, and purple soil. The gullies formed during the 1800s after heavy farming stripped the land, and they now draw photographers and hikers. Visitors can view the canyons from a rim trail that keeps them behind fences, since the edges are fragile. Sandy hiking trails, picnic areas, and a visitor center add to the visit. Campers can use a backcountry trail, and nearby cabins and campsites are available at Florence Marina State Park on Lake Walter F. George. The park also hosts astronomy programs because of its dark skies.
