Tolland State Forest covers about 4,400 acres in the southern Berkshires around the 1,065-acre Otis Reservoir, the largest lake for recreation in western Massachusetts. A boat ramp takes boats up to 24 feet, and the reservoir is fished for trout and bass. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the campground on a peninsula in the 1930s; its beach is for registered campers only, and camping needs a reservation. Parking from late May to early September costs $8 for Massachusetts plates and $30 for others.
