Canyon de Chelly National Monument sits entirely on Navajo Tribal Trust land, and about 40 Navajo families still live within it. Two paved rim drives lead to the views, with three overlooks on the North Rim and seven on the South Rim. Spider Rock, a sandstone spire, rises 750 feet from the canyon floor. Apart from the White House Trail, going into the canyon requires a permit and an authorized guide, while the rim drives and Welcome Center are free.
