About Virginia Historical Society

The institution now operating as the Virginia Museum of History & Culture is based in Richmond and serves as both a public museum and a research and teaching hub for the state's past. Visitors can explore rotating and signature exhibitions, including a large multi-sensory display that traces the story of Virginia across its five major regions. The collection is very large, with millions of objects and library holdings ranging from paintings and military artifacts to photographs and sports memorabilia. A research library is open on set weekdays and certain Saturdays, and the site also hosts lectures, family programs, and member events throughout the year.
