About Afton State Park
Afton State Park covers 1,620 acres on the St. Croix River, about five miles south of the town of Afton, and was set up in 1969. Deep ravines drop 300 feet to the river past sandstone outcrops, and trails cross restored prairie and oak savanna to ridgetop views. There are 20 miles of hiking trail, horse and paved bike trails, a swimming beach and backpack campsites, and in winter 11 miles of groomed ski trail. Cars cannot reach the campground or beach, so plan to walk. A one-day vehicle permit costs $7.
