About Collis P. Huntington State Park

This free Connecticut state park spreads across 1,017 acres in Redding, Bethel and Newtown. It was the country estate of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington and opened to the public in 1973; the sculptor's life-size bears and wolves still stand at the entrance. About ten miles of trails wind past five ponds, a lagoon and 15-acre Lake Hopewell, and they are open to hikers, cyclists and riders. You can canoe and fish the ponds, and archery deer hunting runs from mid-September through December, so wear bright colors in fall.
