A 10.3-mile linear trail on a former railroad bed through four Connecticut towns, open to hikers, bikers, horseback riders, and skiers.
Middlebury/Naugatuck/Oxford/Southbury, CT
This linear state park trail follows an old railroad route across Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, and Southbury in western Connecticut. Its surface shifts between sand, packed dirt, cobbles, and original ballast and cinders, and it passes extensive deciduous woodlands, small horse farms, ponds, wetlands, and stream-side passages. It was first designated for horses and remains popular with riders, and it also serves walkers, joggers, bikers, and hikers. In snowy weather it suits cross-country skiing. Part of the trail remains closed due to damage from the August 2024 flooding, specifically a large section between Kettletown Road in Southbury and Christian Street in Oxford.
