About Davenport House Museum

The Davenport House, dating to about 1820, was once set for demolition to clear space for a parking lot. A small group of women stopped that plan, bought the building, and launched a preservation effort that grew well beyond this one home. The house opened as a museum in 1963 and remains run and maintained by the Historic Savannah Foundation. Visitors can explore immersive exhibits about a well-known Savannah story of courage, along with the lives of enslaved and free residents who lived in the house during the early 19th century. The museum's shop and entrance are located in the Historic Kennedy Pharmacy building.
