About Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park

Droop Mountain saw the last major Civil War battle in West Virginia on November 6, 1863. The battlefield became the state's first state park when it was dedicated on July 4, 1928, and the Civilian Conservation Corps later built it out for visitors during the Depression. Today you can climb a lookout tower over the Greenbrier Valley, hike the trails, picnic under shelters and see battle artifacts at the small museum. The park sits on US 219 about 15 miles south of Marlinton and 25 miles north of I-64 at Lewisburg, and it has no overnight lodging.
