Hammond Pond Parkway, Newton, MA 02168 · Newton, MA
This state reservation in Newton wraps around Hammond Pond, a protected Great Pond, with dozens of wooded trails that link to the neighboring Webster Woods and Houghton Garden. Outcrops of sandstone conglomerate and Roxbury puddingstone draw rock climbers, and anglers fish the pond. It became part of Greater Boston's park system in 1916. Parking is free in the reservation lot, on the left as you enter the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center from Hammond Pond Parkway, and the Green Line runs nearby.
