About Innisfree Garden

Innisfree is a large landscape garden in the Hudson Valley, built over many decades as an artistic composition. Its design draws on Chinese and Japanese garden traditions, arranging stone, water, and plants to direct movement and draw the eye. Visitors explore on foot along paths that open into a series of spaces, some enclosed and some expansive, with views across water, meadow, and woodland. The garden began as the private property of Walter and Marion Beck, who drew inspiration from Chinese scroll paintings, and it was later shaped with help from landscape architect Lester Collins. Spring brings a celebrated daffodil collection, and the garden runs a program of tours, lectures, and events throughout the season.
