About Kolomoki Mounds State Park

Kolomoki Mounds State Park sits in southwest Georgia near the Chattahoochee River in Early County. The site holds a large group of earthen mounds built by Indigenous people who lived there during the Woodland period. Its tallest feature, Mound A, rises several dozen feet and towers over smaller burial and ceremonial mounds. Beyond the archaeology, visitors can fish and boat on two lakes, hike three trails through forest and lakeside scenery, and stay at a campground shaded by hardwoods and pines. The park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and it also offers a playground, pedal boats, and miniature golf. The museum is not currently open, but ranger-led programs and guided tours of the mounds are offered often.
