Mount Tom State Park sits along the shore of Mount Tom Pond and offers a summit climb, a swimming beach, and picnic spots. A short hiking trail leads to a stone observation tower at the top of the mountain, where visitors can see far across the Taconics, the Catskills, and Long Island Sound. Fall foliage is a highlight. The park was founded in 1915 and is among the oldest in the state park system. Kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals operate on site during the season, and the park also offers fishing, geology stops along the trails, and scuba access. Parking is limited and the park can close when it reaches capacity.
