About Mountain Lakes
Clay and Braxton counties sit within the Mountain Lakes region of central West Virginia, home to reservoirs such as Sutton Lake and Burnsville Lake along the Elk River. Rail Explorers' Elk River Division runs pedal-powered railbikes along a former rail line out of Clay, and Braxton County's tourism office is based in the county seat of Sutton. The cluster also includes the Marietta-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, based in Marietta, Ohio, a river town about 70 miles away that belongs to the separate Mid-Ohio Valley tourism region.
