Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is a large state park of about 4,871 acres in Palo Pinto and Stephens counties, near Strawn. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department manages it. The state bought the former ranch in 2011 with help from The Nature Conservancy. Opening was first planned for 2023 but was pushed back because of pandemic-era supply problems. The park opened to visitors in early 2026, and its official grand opening ceremony followed in April 2026.
