About

About Iowa

This grouping spans central and southeast Iowa, from Madison County's Covered Bridges Scenic Byway near Winterset to the Mississippi River city of Burlington and the railbike route in Boone. Madison County has six historic covered bridges built in the 1800s, the setting for The Bridges of Madison County. Burlington's Snake Alley is a steeply curved brick street built in 1894 that drops 58 feet over five half-curves. In Boone, Rail Explorers runs pedal-powered railbikes along the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad's tracks through the Des Moines River valley.
