An afternoon in South Yarmouth: Mini golf, ice cream & more
Battle Great White Sharks and Ruthless Pirates
You did some sightseeing. You spent the day at the beach. Now it's time to have some good old-fashioned fun with the family.
Two of the things that should be at the top of your list? Mini golf and ice cream!
Route 28 in South Yarmouth is packed with fun. If you are staying in the area you have already seen all there is to do. If you aren't, this vacation fun zone is centrally located and easy to find.
To reach Route 28 in South Yarmouth from the Mid Cape (Route 6), take Exit 8 all the way to Route 28 and turn right, or take Exit 7 all the way to Route 28 and turn left.
Get geared up for the fun with a good breakfast. If you want to eat in the area, try Hearth n' Kettle (try the Hungry Pilgrim, pilgrim), the Piccadilly Deli & Cafe or the Keltic Kitchen (a local favorite).
Every fun family vacation should include mini golf. South Yarmouth is home to two of the biggest and best mini golf attractions on Cape Cod: Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf and Skull Island Sports World. Pirate's Cove has two challenging scallywag-filled courses from which to choose. Skull Island has the Skull Island course plus batting cages, go karts and a driving range.
If you want to step out of the sun for a spell, hit the lanes at Ryan Amusements. They've got candlepin and ten pin bowling (plus Mystic Bowling on Friday and Saturday nights). There's an arcade (Skull Island has one too) and mom and dad can even enjoy an adult beverage from the bar.
In between destinations, recharge with refreshments. If you are still too full from breakfast, take an ice cream break instead. Cape Cod Creamery (look for the blue and yellow Adirondack chairs) offers a delicious menu of flavors, all with a clever, Cape-inspired name. Alan Davis, owner of Cape Cod Creamery, said the two biggest sellers at his Yarmouth and Hyannis locations are Cummaquid Coconut and Sandy Neck Snickers. A java man himself, Alan admits he is partial to the Cotuit Coffee.
There's also Blondie's Ice Cream and DQ nearby.
While spending your day in South Yarmouth, don't forget to take pictures--you'll want to remember the fun you had and most importantly, who won the mini golf match!
