Summertime Food Mashups in the Ocean State.
A Big Appetite in a Little State: Three Rhode Island Summertime Meal Combinations
Wherever you look, there is always something to discover in the nation’s tiniest state, and your next meal is no exception. Rhode Island has some mouth-watering food combinations that make for a memorable summertime seaside meal.
Rhode Island Stuffies
The perfect daycation starts with the beach. Rhode Island happens to be full of them, and there’s a patch of paradise for everyone. Complete your day at the beach with delectable Rhode Island stuffies; a quahog stuffed with Italian bread crumbs, garlic, onions, and steamed clams. Head down to Narragansett to one of several seaside restaurants and grab yourself some stuffies to take to the beach, or even make them yourself!
Del’s Shandy
Del's Shandy is the marriage of two iconic Rhode Island brands - Narragansett Lager and Del's Frozen Lemonade. The shandy, popular with natives and tourists alike, can be found tucked away in the coolers of visitors across state beaches. A Narragansett Brewery spokeswoman called the drink "a perfect summertime mashup, born out of pure Rhode Island experimentation in 2013." The drink, essentially a marketing stunt gone right, was Narragansett's second product paying homage to a Rhode Island franchise, the first being an Autocrat coffee Stout. According to Narragansett Brewery, the ideal daycation with this shandy, of course, "at the beach, while also enjoying an original Del’s Lemonade, in-hand, from one of their famous ‘Del’s Trucks’ or push carts.” You can also find shandy 6-packs at many local liquor stores for $9.99.
Hot Wieners
Found in intimate eateries scattered throughout the state, New York System Hot Wieners is a Rhode Island take on a classic hot dog. Boiled franks, topped with chopped onions, celery salt, seasoned meat sauce, and mustard, this local delicacy is always served up with Autocrat Coffee Milk – a twinning of Rhode Island classics. To make this meal even sweeter, the price for a plate of RI-style wieners is about $3.00, so your wallet will love them too.
When in Rhode Island, embrace this small state’s maritime offerings with delicious food by the sea. Expand your pallet and discover memorable food combinations that will keep you coming back for more!
