Let them Eat Cake 4 Breakfast
BE SURE TO STOP FOR THE BREWSTER BUN
If you’re looking for a French experience on the Cape, look no further than Eat Cake 4 Breakfast Bakery in Brewster. “We’re French pastry with an American twist,” says Danielle Nettleton, the pastry chef and owner. The French influence no surprise, considering that Nettleton studied the culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Even the name is a play on Marie Antoinette’s famous quote, “Let them eat cake.”
Every morning the bakery prepares an assortment of French croissants, from plain to chocolate, almond, pistachio, and ham and cheese. “Our most popular treat by far is the Brewster Bun. That’s croissant dough rolled up in sugar and spices. No matter how many of those we make, we always seem to sell out.”
Along with fluffy croissants, they also make macaroons, fruit tarts, large cakes to order, and even a pie of the month. And many people rave about the decadent petite cakes, including cheesecake, opera cake, and chocolate mousse.
Nettleton takes great pride in her pastries, especially when she gets to introduce people to a French treat they’ve never tried. “I think sometimes on the Cape people can be a little sheltered in terms of what they’ve tried, so we’re just opening the door to new flavors,” she says.
