Green Wedding Ideas
Plan an environmentally-friendly wedding on Cape Cod
As people become more and more conscious about their impact on the environment, it is no surprise that the green movement is spreading from things such as shopping to weddings.
Weddings can have a big impact (all those people driving and flying-in, all the flowers cut for the centerpieces, and all the paper used in invitations, menus, and programs). To minimize their impact, couples are starting to opt for "green" weddings. Perhaps not every aspect will be touched, but there are a few ways in which couples can help the Earth on their special day.
1) Use recycled paper in your invitations (or, opt to send out e-vites [this may appear tacky to some, but it really is the greenest way to go about the invites]). Check out the corresponding blog for more information!
2) Pick a caterer who recycles (you'd be surprised that some don't) and one who serves fresh, local food (helping out the environment by staying local and helping out the local economy). The Casual Gourmet has experience with green catering, as do other caterers, so don't be afraid to ask!
3) Provide a shuttle service so that fewer guests have to drive. Also, opting to have your ceremony and reception in the same place will cut down on emissions as well.
4) Use live, potted plants in your centerpieces (or opt to not have flowers in the centerpieces). This will save you money and it eliminates the need to cut and then throw out flowers, allowing the flora to be replanted. Another neat idea is to make the centerpieces something guests can take home with them (such as a basil plant) and use later!
