Make Jam and Meet Peter Rabbit at the Green Briar Nature Center in East Sandwich
Cape Holiday
Thornton Burgess, author of many popular animal-themed children's books, was born and raised in the town of Sandwich, and the Thornton Burgess Society was founded to honor this native son.
The Thornton Burgess Society operates the Green Briar Nature Center, the Green Briar Jam Kitchen, and the East Sandwich Game Farm.
The nature center, located at 6 Discovery Hill Road in East Sandwich, has nature trails and a beautiful wildflower garden. The nature center holds various events throughout the year including an Herb Festival, Blueberry Day, Peter Rabbit's Animal Day, a Bird Carver & Wildlife Arts Show & Sale and Cape Cod Cranberry Day, to name a few.
The jam kitchen is also located at the nature center and is billed as a "living museum" where interested visitors can watch the jam making process (and purchases jars of the delicious jams). Jam making workshops for adults and families are also held throughout the year.
Visit the Thornton Burgess Society website for hours of operation. Admission is by donation.
The East Sandwich Game Farm is a beautiful stretch of conservation land that abuts Talbot's Point Conservation Area. This is a great spot for a walk as a family.
