A Dog’s Day on the Cape in Eastham
Be Sure to Stop at the "Barkery" for Treats
Bringing your dog on an adventure in Eastham has never been easier. The Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Light Beach are open to leashed dogs year-round, you can take them on a walk along the lady slipper trail at Wiley Park, or and there are several dog-friendly hotels in town. But to really show your dog some love, make sure to take them to The Cape Cod Dog.
Commemorate your Cape Cod trip at the themed photo booth. What started as a seasonal event for professionally photographed holiday pet pictures, has become an especially popular way for visitors to commemorate their trips. “People just come and take pictures, they share them on Instagram and hopefully they tag us,” says owner Katrina Boucher. “People look forward to coming back and doing it again.”
Good dogs can also enjoy some retail therapy and be fitted with a collar and leash decorated with a map of Cape Cod. “People want the matching set option,” Katrina says. “If I have a pattern in stock I have to make sure there’s one of each item in every size.” The toys are also Cape-themed, as your pooch can walk out with a squeaky Larry the Lobster or Cape Cod Crab Toy.
The "barkery" is an especially popular feature where your pooch may drool over the glass display case filled with gourmet treats shaped like donuts and cookies. Boucher says, “A lot of owners have to leave their dogs behind and will get a special treat for them. We’ll wrap them up special in a box and ribbons for them at no extra charge.”
You don’t even have to feel guilty about indulging your dog; The Cape Cod Dog uses a holistic approach to their products, meaning that everything they sell is all-natural. “It’s like a health food store for dogs,” says Boucher. This includes no-hide bones, supplements, shampoos, and even dental products, and each is tested thoroughly by Boucher before they even hit the shelves. She says, “My approach is if I’m not going to feed it to my own animals, I’m not going to feed it to yours.”
